Sounds fabulous, maybe Frascati, a cold white plus that fantastic pork they sell, sit outside at the wall overlooking Rome maybe? Primes can be helpful for keeping a small footprint, but you already knew that, right? Not all Americans have extensive knowledge of a place in particular not when they ask a question about bag size.īut it's all good, the Amalfi coast even less of long lens territory I think. My wife has never been to Rome so we would like to experience it together.Įdit: I am not opposed to picking up a few primes however I will need my laptop which is why I am traveling with a backpack.Ī moment of duh then on my part. I have been back to Italy since just not to Rome. I was a in Rome as a teenager in the 80's. Time permitting, the plan is to explore Puglia, Naples area, Amalfi Coast and Rome. I will be staying in the countryside about an hour east of Naples taking care of some personal business. But tourists often do that to snatch the moment.ĭunno, but in my book Italy is a country made for standard viewing over the last few thousand years. Think about a Saudi walking around St Petersburg in Florida with his 300mm equivalent lens pointing at you from the other side of the road. From what I remember, the paparazzi style stealth photography doesn't go down well in Italy, but then, it hardly ever does. I found a light tele and a wide angle enough as you would grow around your gear and use what you have. Unless those bag snatchers have moved on in life, Italy was in parts notorious for that. If money wasnt an object, I would take a 16/23/56 combo, certainly Bowery territory, but would carry the bowery in a casual day pack. So the 23/2 might be a good idea even before it gets dark. You might want to travel light and be unobtrusive, don't scream big-pants-glass. Otherwise typical street (terrible term me thins) photography territory. Forum Romanum can be wide-angle territory but maybe not often wider than 24mm FF? Mainly cities or also coutryside and maybe Sicily? Vulcano and Stromboli? ![]() ![]() I just picked up the 6 and can hold two bodies with lenses mounted and two additional lenses standing. It's only slightly larger than the Retro 5 but would easily hold everything you've listed. With the kit you're describing you may want to look into the new Retro 6. I am able to fit one body with lens mounted (X-T1 with grip fit) and two lenses stacked as well as a second body or third lens. ![]() As soon as we got back I sold it and bought the Retro 5. I carried two bodies on the trip and one was slung over my shoulder the entire time. If you don't you can fit the X-T2 with one lens mounted and a second lens. If you have the battery grip on your X-T2 don't even bother with the Bowery. Took the Bowery as my day carry bag in 2015 for 10 days in Edinburgh and Paris. The Bowery and Retro 5 aren't even in the same category size wise. I am heading to Europe in 2.5 months so hoping to get this sorted out soon. This bag would most definitely be my night time carry bag. During the day it is unlikely that I would carry the 23/2.that is more my night time walk about lens. If you have used both, how much gear can you fit in these 2 bags? I have a Peak Design Backpack 20L to transport my gear but I don't always want the backpack on all day. I am looking for a walk around bag when I travel.
